Manager: Bruce De Young, MMR

Education Department

Bruce was appointed to the position of Education Department Manager in July 2013. He brings a wealth of experience in education to that position, having taught mathematics at both the high school and college level for fourteen years. He then served as Assistant Superintendent of Schools with responsibility for Curriculum and Instruction for ten years, and spent the last fifteen years of his career as Superintendent of Schools at a K-12 school district in northern New Jersey.

 

Bruce returned to the hobby in 2000 and joined the NMRA in 2006. In January, 2009, he became a Director of the Garden State Division, and is currently serving as its President and AP Chairman. He is MMR #555, having earned the Golden Spike and the following seven AP Certificates: Master Builder – Scenery,  Master Builder – Structures,  Model Railroad – Author,  Association Volunteer,  Master Builder – Cars, Model Railroad Engineer – Electrical, and Model Railroad Engineer – Civil.

 

Bruce models in both HO and HOn3. His HO Scale Jersey Highlands Railroad features the New York, Susquehanna & Western Railroad and those railroads of northwest New Jersey that interchanged with the NYS&W during the steam to diesel transition era. In HOn3, Bruce models the logging railroads of Pennsylvania, depicted by his Slate Run RR.
