Gerry Leone, MMR, HLM

Vice President - Projects

Gerry originally joined the NMRA in 1977 but left in the mid-1980s when the lure of playing in a weekend rock band overtook his love of model railroading.  He rejoined in 1999.  In 2002 he became editor of the Twin Cities Division’s newsletter, and in 2004 found himself simultaneously editing the Thousand Lakes Region’s newsletter.  He also served on the boards of both the Division and Region.

His service to NMRA National began in 2005 as Deputy Chair of the Membership Services and Promotion Department.  In 2009 he was named NMRA Communications Director, and was appointed Vice President / Special Projects in 2013.  In addition, he edits the NMRA eBulletin.

Gerry earned his MMR in 2005, and has received three President’s Awards from the TLR, as well as a National NMRA President’s Award and Meritorious Service Award.  He was named Honorary Life Member #60 in 2013.

Gerry has both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in advertising, and recently retired from a 38-year career as a Creative Director at several large ad agencies.  He’s authored over 60 articles for the hobby press, and his Bona Vista Railroad has appeared in Great Model Railroads 2008 and 2015.  In addition, he's a Contributing Editor for Model Railroader magazine's Model Railroader Video Plus subscription streaming service, and has his own monthly show, "Off the Rails" that talks about about tips, tricks, tools, and techniques of the hobby.
